- Launched in the international market
- Features a proper cafe-racer styling
- Unlikely to be launched in India
BMW has taken the wraps off its latest retro-offering, the R 12 S in the international market. The bike was first launched about five decades ago and has now debuted in its latest form. Here is what the BMW R 12 S has to offer.
On the design front, the R 12 S, similar to some of the other BMW retro bikes, also gets a cafe-racer styling. It features a bat fairing with a smoked bubble visor up top and a seat cowl at the rear. The R 12 S is draped in a shade of orange with white elsewhere for a contrasting theme. Then it also gets bar-end mirrors which further accentuate the visual appeal. The BMW R 12 S gets a left-side side-mounted twin exhaust setup which is slightly unconventional.
Powering the BMW R 12 S is a 1,170cc boxer-twin motor that belts out a humble 109bhp and 115Nm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox and gets a shaft drive system. BMW has also loaded the R 12 S with a bunch of electronic rider aids including traction control, ride modes - rain, road, dynamic, engine brake control, hill start, heated grips, cruise control, and keyless ride.
It rides on fully adjustable USD front forks and a fully adjustable rear monoshock, whereas the braking hardware comprises a twin 310mm front and a single 265mm rear disc mounted on 17-inch wheels. These come wrapped in 120/70 front and 180/55 rear tyres.
In the USA, the BMW has priced the R 12 S at USD 21,590 (approximately Rs. 18.26 lakh). However, its debut in India is unlikely to happen.
