- R12 name filed for trademark
- BMW previously had the R1200C on sale
- No official announcement from the manufacturer yet
BMW Motorrad seems to have some notable success with the brawny R18 cruiser that it introduced back in 2020. And now, the Bavarian manufacturer has filed a trademark for a smaller cruiser, the R12.
Ironically, BMW had the R1200C in its yesteryear's lineup and discontinued it for being a bit too small to be a cruiser. Now, the firm could be playing around with the idea of bringing in a similar-sized model with the recently filed trademark in the USA, Japan, Germany, and Australia.
Even though the details are scarce, given BMW's approach with the R-line, it's fair to speculate that the new R12 could be a 1200cc cruiser with the boxer motor.
Moreover, we expect the R18's design language to inspire that of the R12's. And despite being comparatively smaller, the R12 could pack enough muscle to be in the crosshairs of the Triumphs, Indians, and Harleys.
That said, the R12 name has just been filed for the trademark and will be examined in various markets before being put to use. So, any official announcement from BMW Motorrad is still a while away.
