- Powered by the same engine as its cruiser sibling
- Features a bat fairing and neo-retro styling
- India launch details yet to be announced
BMW Motorrad recently unveiled the R12 cruiser in the international market. But the German firm has also introduced another model based on the same platform, called the R12 nineT.
On the design front, the new R12 nineT looks thoroughly old-school with a dash of modern elements such as the round-shaped LED headlight, sleek turn indicators, and a floating rear seat. In a tad unconventional manner, the R12 nineT’s exhaust is mounted on the left side. The boxer twin motor adds heft to the German bike’s appearance.
The R12 nineT is powered by a 1,170cc, boxer-twin engine that BMW used in the now-discontinued R1200GS. It makes 109bhp, is linked to a six-speed gearbox, and has received a new airbox and tweaked cylinder head covers. The features list of the new BMW R12 nineT includes ride modes – Rain, Road, and Dynamic – keyless operation, engine brake control, traction control system, ABS pro, and full-LED illumination as mentioned above. The bike uses a pair of dual analogue dials with a digital inset to display various readouts, including a speedometer, odometer, tripmeter, and more.
The R12 nineT’s hardware comprises fully adjustable USD front forks and a monoshock with Brembo-sourced brakes at both ends. It rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped in road-oriented tyres and gets a 16-litre fuel tank.
As of now, BMW has unveiled the new R12 nineT in the international market only. But whether it will be launched in India is yet to be known.
