BMW is apparently working on a performance electric motorcycle as patent image of the same have surfaced online. The image show the basic structure of the motorcycle including the battery pack, suspension setup, swingarm and wheels.
BMW has adapted a construction similar to its C Evolution electric scooter which is already on sale in the international markets. The unique setup comprises of a large sealed waterproof box which forms the main frame of the motorcycle, while housing the battery pack and other electronic circuitry on the inside. According to the patent, this box is made up of a mixture of metal including aluminum and titanium. It is mounted on the headstock and bolted on to the swingarm pivot and monoshock. Meanwhile, the propulsion motor is placed at the end of the box which acts as the link with the swingarm.
Now, what indicates that this bike will be high-performance machine is the fact that its swingarm is borrowed from the BMW F800GT while the suspension, brakes and handlebar look identical to that of the F800R streetbike. Although the patent shows only the basic hardware, the motorcycle is likely to get an aggressive styling to suit its character. Not to mention the BMW’s top-notch electronics it will be bestowed with.
At present, it is not known when this patent will take shape of a production electric bike. However, what can be predicted is it will certainly pack performance on par with the ballistic electric motorcycles such as Harley-Davidson LiveWire and Zero SR/F which are available in the international markets.
