- New 2023 Yamaha R1 is in the making
- Track-only bike will come first
- New R1M could also come
Yamaha has been working on giving some upgrades to its flagship motorcycle – the YZF R1. This motorcycle is likely to get a host of updates for 2023.
According to FIM documents, the Japanese brand submitted details of a new 2023 Yamaha YZF1000W. The YZF1000 is an internal codename for YZF-R1. The R1M has a codename YZF1000D. This new detail was submitted at the beginning of this month and it’s clear that there’s a track-only new 2023 R1 coming soon.
Now, this makes us believe that a road-legal version of the 2023 R1 will also be launched. However, there’s no such confirmation from Yamaha on this. But it is quite easy to understand the strategy. It makes complete sense to first bring a track-only version and then get the road bike out for sale. We can expect the new R1 to get some aesthetic, performance as well as feature upgrades.
Yamaha could take the 2022 EICMA show as an opportunity to showcase this new R1. We could see an M version of it as well at the Yamaha arena later this year.
