- BSA brand revived by Classic Legends
- Comes back with new 650cc Gold Star
- India launch unlikely for now
The iconic British motorcycle maker, BSA, has made a comeback after being extinct from the two-wheeler market for years. Under the acquisition of Classic Legends, the same brand which sells Jawa bikes in India, BSA unveiled the new Gold Star at the Motorcycle Live event held at NEC Birmingham.
The Gold Star is a resurrection of one of BSA’s iconic nameplates of the olden days. Typical of a retro bike, it sports a round headlamp with chrome bezel, dual pod console, peanut-shaped fuel tank, and a single-unit seat. Elements paying homage to the older BSAs include a chrome fuel tank, offset fuel lid and golden pinstripes. The Gold Star is quite modest when it comes to features. The only modern aids available are dual-channel ABS, a slipper clutch, and a USB charger.
Clinging on to its dual-cradle frame is a 652cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that churns out 45bhp of power and 55Nm of peak torque. It rides on an 18-17-inch spoke wheel combination that are suspended by 41mm telescopic forks up front and 5-step preload-adjustable twin springs at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a single disc at both ends, both sourced by Brembo. The kerb weight of the motorcycle stands at 213kg with a fuel tank of 12-litres.
Classic Legends has designed and engineered the BSA Gold Star in the UK. It will mainly compete against the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 The motorcycle might be sold outside of the UK at a later stage, but its India launch seems uncertain for now.
