- Delhi is first to get BS-VI grade fuel
- State-run oil companies are requested to provide BS-VI grade fuel at least 30-45 day ahead of the deadline
- The new BS-VI emission norm comes into effect from April 2020
Even as two-wheeler manufacturers are working to update their entire product portfolio to comply with the soon to be implemented emission norms, the national capital has become the first city to offer the BS-VI compliant fuel. The environment minister, Prakash Javadekar, had reportedly informed the Rajya Sabha that BS-VI fuel has been introduced in Delhi to reduce air pollution while BS-VI compliant vehicles will be available latest by April 2020.
Also, adhering to the same deadline, the BS-VI grade fuel is expected to be available to the rest of the country, latest by 1 April 2020. In addition to that, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) along with the automotive industry has requested the oil marketing companies to provide BS-VI grade fuel at least 30-45 days ahead of the scheduled deadline. This will allow the auto industry a smooth transition towards the new emission norms. As per reports, with the adaptation of BS-VI norms, emissions produced by petrol engines will be reduced by around 25 per cent.
