A budget variant of the Mahindra Pantero motorcycle has been spied testing near its R&D facility at Chinchwad by Team-Bhp. From the images, it can be clearly seen that the company has stripped off many components from the entry-level motorcycle probably to further cut price.
One of the major changes on the spied motorcycle are that the alloy wheels have made its way for spoke wheels and instead of faired bikini headlamp cluster, it gets an old school round headlamp. Rest of the package looks familiar to the current Pantero motorcycle.
The budget variant is expected to be powered by the same single-cylinder air-cooled MCi-5 engine (Microchip ignited 5-curve engine) from the current Pantero lineup. This engine produces 8.5bhp at 8500rpm and torque of 8.5Nm at 5500rpm and is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox.
We are expecting that this budget variant of the Pantero is developed specifically for the rural markets where price plays a very important role. The cut-price variant makes lot of sense in this regarding, helping them generate volume and build market share. Once launched, the motorcycle will compete with the TVS Star City and Hero HF Dawn.
