- BYD to enter two-wheeler space
- Electric maxi-scooter under development
- EICMA 2024 debut likely
BYD is one of the largest electric car companies in the world. It is also the second largest EV battery maker and supplies batteries to almost every EV maker on this planet. Now, the company plans to enter the two-wheeler space.
According to leaked patent drawings, the Chinese company is working on an electric maxi-scooter. From its appearance, this EV looks quite big and is likely to have a good road presence. The overall styling resembles the Yamaha Max range of maxi-scooters. However, BYD is likely to use its observations and experience to build this scooter.
With a chain drive in sight, it is clear that BYD will use a mid-mounted motor to power this e-scooter. The batteries are likely to be around the floorboard to keep the CG low. The wheels on the scooter look like they are 14 inches. Other cycle parts like USD forks up front, large and wide seats, and a big windscreen are also visible on this scooter.
BYD is likely to unveil this scooter at 2024 EICMA, followed by its launch first in China and then in some European markets. It is too early to talk about the competition of this BYD, but with a good motor and riding range, it could take on some 300cc maxi-scooters.
