The CF Moto 650MT is set to arrive in India on 19 July. And when it does, the adventure-touring motorcycle will go head-on against a similar motorcycle from Kawasaki; the Versys 650. Here we find out how the two bikes stack up against each other in terms of specifications.
Features
Kawasaki was close-fisted when it came to equipping the Versys 650 with features. Yes, the motorcycle gets a tall-windscreen, engine sump guard and ABS but that’s about it. It misses out on a large engine guard, knuckle guards, pannier racks and LED lighting which the CF Moto 650MT brags about.
Engine
The Kawasaki Versys 650 and the CF Moto 650MT are powered by 649cc, parallel-twin engines. While the CF Moto’s unit produces 60bhp and 56Nm, the motor on the Kawasaki churn out a higher 67.4bhp and 64Nm. Both units come mated to a six-speed gearbox and final chain drive.
Cycle Parts
CF Moto has provided the 650MT with 17-inch wheels on both ends shod with Metzeler rubber. These wheels are suspended by inverted forks at the front that offers 140mm of travel and a monoshock at the rear with 145mm of travel. Meanwhile, stopping power on the 650MT comes from twin disc at the front and a disc at the rear.
On the other hand, the Versys 650 also rides on 17-inch wheels. The suspension is handled by 41mm inverted forks up front with 149mm of travel and an offset monoshock at the rear with 144mm of travel. Braking duties are taken care of by dual-300mm discs for the front and a single 250mm disc at the rear.
Dimensions
Let’s begin with the Kawasaki Versys 650. It has a wheelbase of 1415mm, ground clearance of 170mm and seat height of 840mm. The CF Moto 650MT also has a seat height of 840mm although it gets a longer wheelbase of 1425mm. However, with a ground clearance of 128mm, it is also lower. The bike sports an 18-litre fuel tank capacity and a kerb weight of 218kg. Meanwhile, the Versys has a larger, 21-litre fuel tank and tips the scale at 216kg.
Pricing
Kawasaki has pegged the Versys 650 at Rs 6.69 lakhs. However, considering that CF Moto will price the 650MT competitively, we can expect it to cost around Rs 5.5-6 lakhs.
