CF Moto 700cc parallel-twin design patents leaked

- Patents design images suggest that the motorcycle design is final

- Features a new 700cc parallel-twin motor

- Gets a new tubular steel frame

While Chinese two-wheeler manufacturer, CF Moto, is preparing to make its foray into the Indian two-wheeler market with four motorcycles in July, leaked patent images of a new 700cc parallel-twin have emerged on the internet.

The leaked images provide a heads up of what is to be expected from the Chinese firm in the near future. The design renderings are intricate, covering all the major components, thus suggesting that the new motorcycle may be in its final form and production-ready. Judging by the design of the body panel and parts, it seems that CF Moto has refrained from using the cost-effecting path and has opted to use quality product and materials for the upcoming motorcycle. The overall styling of the motorcycle looks aggressive and appealing, which can be attributed to the firm’s tie-up with Austrian bike maker, KTM.

The engine seen in the patent images bears a ‘700’ logo cast into the left crankcase cover, leaving no doubt that it will be a 700cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor despite the bottom half being exactly the same as the 650 unit. Compared to the current 649cc motor that produces 75bhp and 45Nm, expect the 700cc unit to register marginally higher power and torque figures. Transmission duties will continue to be taken care of by a six-speed gearbox. Notably, the cylinder head, in some of the patent images, is missing, which could possibly imply an oversight or that a replacement component is yet to go in.

Besides the new motor, the images also highlight the presence of an all-new frame. It is a steel tubular design with an exposed look with the upper main tubes being prominently visible as a part of the motorcycle's design. The sub-frame follows the same exposed look with a petite tail section. The motorcycle will feature an aluminium swingarm with a single-sided tyre hugger that will hold the turn indicators for the rear and the registration plate.

For cycle parts, the motorcycle is equipped with inverted forks accompanied by a single-disc and a 4-piston radial caliper. The rear gets a more advanced rising-rate monoshock mounted onto the swingarm rather than a direct-action setup as seen on the current 650cc line-up. Braking will be done by a single disc at the rear.

We may expect CF Moto to introduce the new model in 2020 and it is likely to coincide with the company’s future expansion plans. Apart from its tie-up with KTM, the company has also partnered with AMW in India. The motorcycles will be brought to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route and assembled at their Bangalore facility.
