- New electric sportsbike based on 450SR under development
- 450cc parallel-twin replaced with electric motor
- Uses the same chassis, sub-frame
CF Moto has started working on a new electric motorcycle project, but there’s a twist. Unlike the new EV platform approach most of the bike makers have been taking these days, this Chinese brand is planning to use a cost-effective solution.
According to leaked patent pictures, CF Moto is developing an electric sportsbike based on the 450SR. The pictures show the bike built around a tubular-steel trellis identical to that of the 450SR and the 450NK range. The swingarm, seat and even the sub-frame – all are from the 450SR. But instead of that 450cc parallel-twin motor, the Chinese brand will insert an electric motor and a decently-sized battery pack.
It looks like the company believes that taking such an approach, will help them in reducing overall manufacturing costs and also bring down the development time considerably. The drop in development costs is also likely to be seen in the pricing of this bike. In fact, if this strategy works for the brand, it could use it as a long-term approach and build more EVs around the current ICE models.
As of now, there are no details on the launch of this CF Moto electric sportsbike, but EICMA 2024 is when this bike could be unveiled, at least in the concept form.
