India being the largest two-wheeler market in the world, it has been luring a lot of international brands in the country. This time around, American bike manufacturer Cleveland CycleWerks, based out of Cleveland, Ohio, will be the latest one to enter the Indian market by the third quarter of 2017. Set up in 2009, the company manufactures a small range of motorcycles along with creating custom designs.
Cleveland CycleWerks sources most of its components from China and produces motorcycles with engine capacity ranging between 110cc and 450cc. Internationally, the manufacturer has the following models - the Heist, a bobber style cruiser that also is their first product introduced in 2010; the Ace, a retro styled commuter motorcycle, and the Misfit, a café racer style motorcycle. All these bikes are powered by a 250cc engine. The Ace is available in Standard, Deluxe, Café and Scrambler trims.
Cleveland CycleWerks also produces dirt adventure bikes like the FXX and the FXR which are powered by a 110cc engine. It also has the Hooligun, a serious adventure bike which is powered by a liquid-cooled, 450cc, four valve OHC engine. The India website currently displays three bikes - Misfit, Ace and the FXR. Reports indicate that the brand will enter the Indian market through a joint venture with Laish-Madison MotorWerks (LMMW), a Hyderabad-based company. The Indian website claims that LMMW’s assembly plant in Hyderabad will have an annual production capacity of 30,000 bikes and post expansion, in a few years, it will be increased to over 40,000 units.
Initially, the company might opt for CKD route. More details on Cleveland CycleWerks plans for India will be known in the days to come.
