Rapido, a bike-share mobility company, has announced that it will operate with a minimal number of vehicles to support essential services during the 21-day lockdown announced by the Indian Government. The limited number of vehicles that will remain operational will provide services for hospitals, doctors, nurses and government staff among others. The company has temporarily suspended all other services.
Rapido has assured that it is working towards ensuring a secure lifestyle for its Captains (riders of the motorcycles). The company is working internally to help support the livelihood of its captains. The company also has a group insurance cover worth Rs 10 lakh for its Captains. This insurance aims to protect the Captains from financial burden in case of hospitalization.
The Coronavirus pandemic had caused several manufacturers to shut operations temporarily. In a bid to tackle the situation and ensure that the spread of the virus is limited, the Government of India has announced a 21-day lockdown (starting 25 March) throughout the country.
