- Royal Enfield halts production between 13-16 May, 2021
- All three facilities around Chennai will remain shut
After Hero, Honda, and Yamaha announcing the temporary suspension of their production, Royal Enfield has now taken a similar step in the wake of the second wave of the COVID-19 virus in India. The company has decided to halt all operations across its facilities in Chennai from 13 May to 16 May, 2021. Royal Enfield has plants set up in Thiruvottiyur, Oragadam and Vallam Vadagal areas around Chennai.
During the temporary suspension, RE will carry out maintenance activities across its facilities. Given the fact that the retail operations are on hold in a majority of regions in India, the company doesn’t expect to face issues in catering to the demands. Going forward, RE will progress with the resumption of production depending on the lockdown situation. As for the employees working in its corporate offices located in Chennai and Gurgaon, they will continue to work from home.
For this year, Royal Enfield has big plans in terms of portfolio expansion. The company has been caught testing multiple 350cc and 650cc models ahead of their launch. Some of the most talked-about products are the Hunter 350, the next-generation Classic 350 and the 650cc cruiser based on the Interceptor 650’s platform. If the lockdown extends further, we might see a delay in the launch of these new products.
