A few days ago, internet chatter suggested that Benelli was planning to mark its entry into the Indian market. Commencing operations in an extremely competitive market like Indiais a herculean task and reports suggested thatBenelli and DSK MotoWheels were working on a deal for launching their products here. It now seems that the report of the two companies have joined forces was accurate and the deal is expected to be officially announced on October 17.
DSK MotoWheels already has an affiliation with Hyosung Motors which allows it to sell the Korean two-wheelers manufacturer’s products in the Indian market. Hyosung motorcycles are imported in the Indian market through the completely built unit (CBU) route, and the same arrangement is expected to be carried forward for Benelli.
Benelli is one of the oldest Italian two-wheeler manufacturers and has a rich heritage of producing successful racing machines as well as road-going models. Currently owned by a Chinese group, Benelli has a wide portfolio comprising of scooters, nakeds, middleweight supersports, superbikes as well as adventure touring motorcycles. The company’s Indian line-up will definitely contain the entry-level performance motorcycle, the BN302. This 300cc parallel twin motorcycle will rival other naked motorcycles like the Suzuki Inazuma and the KTM Duke 390.
