DSK Motowheels have confirmed that they have plans to enter the 125-150cc segment within the next few years. The motorcycles will be launched under DSK Hyosung brand and will come from S&T group. These motorcycles will be manufactured in company’s upcoming plant in Maharashtra.
This will be the company’s foray into the mass market motorcycle segment and such a decision comes as a time when most of the Indian manufacturers are busy focusing on 100-150cc segment as the major chunk of sales are generated from there. The company is also planning to export the smaller capacity to international markets but that will be at the later stage.
"DSK Motowheels currently has a Completely Knock Down (CKD) facility assembling motorcycles ranging between 250cc to 650cc engine capacities at Wai near Pune. The plant has a capacity of producing 250 motorcycles per month. We are planning to invest around Rs 300-Rs 350 crore for setting up our second plant in Maharashtra. Mostly we will be finalising the 100 acres of land in Maharashtra itself. It will be highly automated plant with a paint shop. Probably the construction should commence in six to eight months from now," said Shirish Kulkarni, MD, DSK Motowheels.
The company is expecting the upcoming plant to be fully operational in next three to four years and will also manufacture premium motorcycles from there.
