DSK-Motowheels may develop electric scooters for India

DSK-Motowheels is planning to develop and sell electric scooters in India within the next few years. This new development by the company is seen as an effort to align itself with Government of India’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020. The main aim of this plan is to encourage reliable, affordable and efficient two wheelers and four wheelers electric vehicles in India.

The company plans to fully localise the upcoming electric scooters that will help them get volumes and will directly help them to keep fixed costs in check.  Hyosung already sells the ST-E3 EVA electric scooter globally and we won’t be surprised if DSK-Motowheels gets this electric vehicle to India. The ST-E3 has a Vespa inspired design and is powered by an electric motor which develops 3.81bhp of power at 700 rpm.  This scooter can attain a top speed of 60kmph and has a front disc brake.

It looks like some manufacturers are now making an effort to include an electric vehicle in their product portfolio. Earlier this week Anand Mahindra had confirmed that Mahindra two-wheelers will soon develop and sell an electric two-wheeler in India.

Chennai based TVS Motor Company is also planning to launch the Qube, a hybrid scooter which was first showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The Qube will feature two source of power, a 100cc four-stroke engine and an electric hub motor. The hybrid system charges the battery when the brakes are applied. This way the energy is used very efficiently. The rider will have an option to choose from various modes depending on the requirement.
