Ducati has spiced up its portfolio by taking the wraps off the all-new Hypermotard 698 Mono. The motorcycle is the smallest-ever member of the Hypermotard lineage and the first supermoto from Ducati to get a single-cylinder engine. Moreover, it’s the most powerful single-cylinder production motorcycle in the world. Well, there’s a lot more to the bike that makes it a very special machine.
Its 659cc, single-cylinder engine has been derived from the 1299 Panigale’s 1,285cc Superqaudro motor with the same 116mm bore but a much shorter 62.4mm stroke.
The resultant power output stands at 78.6bhp which comes in at 9,750rpm. The torque output, meanwhile, is 73.8Nm which maxes out at 8,000rpm.
The main chassis structure comprises a steel trellis frame accompanied by a steel tube sub-frame and an aluminium double-sided swingarm.
The suspension setup and brakes are as premium as any other Ducati. Marzocchi USD forks and Sachs monoshock handle shock absorption duties and both are fully-adjustable.
The stopping power comes from a Brembo M4.32 four-piston front caliper with a 330mm disc assisted by Bosch-Brembo ABS 10.3ME system with lean sensitivity.
Despite being a middle-weight offering, it comes loaded with electronic aids like three power modes, four riding modes, wheelie control, traction control, engine brake control, power launch, and a quick shifter.
On the contrary, Ducati has kept the instrumentation setup pretty simple and all the information is displayed on a 3.8-inch LCD screen.
The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono will be available in standard and RVE trims which differ in terms of graphics and the availability of a quick shifter.
