- Vmoto is an electric scooter and motorcycle manufacturer
- It will handle sales and distribution of the scooters
- Ducati will be managing the marketing department
Ducati had recently made an announcement about its plans to launch an electric motorcycle. While this already sounded like a major departure from its current line-up of combustion bikes, in a turn of events now, the Italian brand is reportedly gearing up to launch an electric scooter first. For the same, Ducati has joined hands with the China-based Vmoto; an electric scooter and motorcycle manufacturer.
The first electric scooter to be spawned from this collaboration will be the Ducati-branded CUx. While the CUx already exists in Vmoto’s line-up, according to the agreement between the two brands, the new product will be a more premium version of the standard model. Accordingly, it will have a higher sticker price as well. While the sales and distribution of this electric scooter will be taken care of by Vmoto, the marketing department will be supervised by Ducati itself.
Currently sold under the Super Soco brand which is owned by Vmoto, the CUx is powered by a 1.8kWh battery pack which delivers a maximum range of around 75km. The scooter runs a 2.8kW Bosch hub motor which produces a mere 3.7bhp while the top speed is limited to 45kmph. Moreover, the scooter also has a camera installed at the front to record videos similar to action cameras.
According to Vmoto, this partnership with Ducati will help the Chinese brand make its foothold stronger in the International markets; especially in Europe. The company also revealed that the Ducati-branded CUx will be a limited-edition product. Amidst this growing wave of electrification, now that an iconic brand like Ducati has stepped in, we might get to witness the introduction of more such interesting products.
