After being dormant in the Indian market for over a year, Hyosung is planning to completely overhaul its Indian line-up with new and cosmetically updated models. The first among these to be launched here are the GT650R and the GT650N.
The GT650N gets typical streetfighter-ish styling cues like an exposed frame, a muscular fuel tank and an edgy headlamp. The styling of the fully-faired GT650R on the other hand, seems to be inspired by that of the new GD250R, though it lacks the flair of a modern supersports model. The front of the bike is dominated by a sharp-looking twin-headlamp unit, while a bulky exhaust canister sticks out of its rear. The major technical highlight of these new models is the addition of an ABS system, which is a feature that their rivals do not offer, even as an optional extra.
Both the GT650 models use a 647cc 8-valve 90 degree V-twin engine, which puts out 73bhp and 64Nm of torque, through a six-speed transmission. Braking hardware is made of dual 300mm petal discs with a four-piston calliper at the front and a 230mm disc with a two-piston calliper in the rear. The 17-inch alloy wheels ride on 41mm USD forks up front and a hydraulic monoshock with preload adjustability in the rear.
The Hyosung GT650R was one of the first Hyosung models to be launched here, when the company entered the Indian market, back in 2011. However, the presence of reputed brands like Kawasaki has been a major cause of trouble for the Korean manufacturer. With the new GT650 range, Hyosung will attempt to capture the attention of buyers looking for affordable middleweight motorcycles, by capitalising on the refreshed looks, ABS and hopefully, a lucrative price tag.
