Lambretta has showcased three new products at the EICMA Show in Italy, based on the brand’s first new platform in over four decades.
Christened as Lambretta V-Special, the new scooter carries traditional styling cues in modern underpinnings. It gets edgy body lines, fixed front fender and the headlamp which hark back to the original Lambretta design. Modern features include LED lights, 12V charger and an LCD instrument panel with Bluetooth connectivity.
The V-Special is built around a semi-monocoque chassis and is offered in three versions - V50, V125 and V200. The V50 is powered by a 50cc engine that delivers 3.5bhp and 3.5Nm of torque, and has a top speed of 45kmph. The V125 is powered by a 125cc engine delivering 10bhp and 9.2Nm of torque, and has a top speed of 95kmph. Our pick of the lot though, is the V200 which gets a 170cc engine churning out 12bhp and 12.5Nm of torque. All three powertrains are air-cooled, four-stroke and Euro-IV compliant, and are mated to a CVT transmission. While the V50 gets a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear, the other two models get disc brakes at both ends.
The V-Special will go on sale in Europe in mid-2018. However, the Indian audience will have to wait until 2019 to get their hands on this scooter. Seems like the Vespa range will finally have some competition!
