UM Motors has unveiled an electric concept, called the Renegade Electric, at the 2017 EICMA Show in Italy.
The Renegade Electric is powered by a water-cooled electric motor. While UM hasn’t revealed technical details about the motor, it claims that power output close to that of a 600cc motorcycle. UM also claims that the drive line has been tested in off-road racing. What is unusual about the Renegade Electric is that the motor is mated to a five-speed gearbox.
The limited range and long charging time has always been the biggest hurdle for the electric vehicles. However, the Renegade Electric features modern technology which aims to take care of this. Available in three battery options, the real-world range of the Renegade Electric varies from 100 to 260 kilometres. All three options get fast-charging system, which allows 80 per cent of the battery to be charged in just 40 minutes.
UM says that with the advancement in technology, there is scope for electric motorcycles in the Indian market. However, the company has given no timeline as to when the Renegade Electric will go into production.
