Electric two-wheelers gets huge tax cut in Maharashtra

- Maharashtra introduces new EV policy

- Huge incentives till 2025

- Will cost government Rs 930 crore

Buying an electric scooter or a motorcycle in Maharashtra is set to become extremely attractive, thanks to Maharashtra government’s new EV policy.

The state has just rolled on a new EV policy where it has an ambitious plans of taking the new registrations of new electric vehicles to 10 per cent by 2025. The government has rolled out an Rs 930 crore policy for the same and is valid till 31 March 2025.

As a part of this new EV policy, the government will subsidise the first 100,000 electric two-wheeler buyers by giving them an incentive of Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity. The previous cap for the same category was at Rs 5000. But interestingly, there's an additional Rs 5000 incentive for buyers who will purchase an EV before 31st December 2021. This will take the total incentive to Rs 15,000. The policy also states that the road tax and registration costs will be waived off.

With this new policy, owning an electric two-wheeler in Maharashtra has become extremely enticing and for those who have been waiting to own green vehicles in the state, now is the best time.
