Emflux, a Bengaluru-based startup, is going to showcase an electric superbike at the 2018 Auto Expo. Christened Model 1, the company claims this bike will have performance equivalent of a middleweight petrol-powered superbike.
Emflux claims that the Model 1 will be capable of hitting 100kmph from a standstill in under 3 seconds, going on to touch a top speed of 200kmph. At the heart of the Model 1 is a liquid-cooled AC induction motor producing 67bhp and 84Nm of torque. Powering the motor would be lithium ion batteries sourced from Samsung, with a real world range of around 200 kilometres. It also gets modern features like a seven-inch touch TFT display, navigation, real-time vehicle diagnostics, over-the-air updates and bike-to-bike Connectivity. The Model 1 can be paired up with your cell phone. The ABS has been sourced from Continental.
While the Model 1 is a fully-faired motorcycle, the company will eventually introduce a streetfighter version of the bike which will be called Model 2. When it goes on sale, it is expected to retail in the range of Rs 5 lakhs to 6 lakhs. While there have seen a handful of electric concepts from Indian startups, we are yet to see one of these materialise into a production bike. Will Model 1 be the country’s first electric bike to actually go on sale? We will have to wait and watch.
