A new Ducati Monster has been spotted undergoing trials in Europe. Sporting cycle parts from the Scrambler and an air-cooled powertrain, this new Monster will be positioned below the Monster 821 as the most affordable streetfighter in the company’s line-up.
The new Monster gets new underpinnings with bits and bobs like the offset monoshock, swingarm and the brakes bearing a striking resemblance to the Scrambler. While the powertrain sports Ducati’s characteristic L-twin architecture, it seems to share more in common with the Scrambler than the Monster range. This Desmodue engine misses out on the liquid-cooling system, though it is rumoured to retain the traction control and drive by wire, making it more advanced than the Scrambler. Reports also suggest that the engine displaces 803cc, which means the power output should be around 74bhp. With new regulations requiring ABS to be compulsory coming into force in Europe by 2017, this Monster will have this safety feature as a standard fitment.
We can expect this Monster to debut at the EICMA Show in Milan, this November. With a price tag in the range of EUR 9000 (Rs 6.84 lakh), it will compete with the likes of the Yamaha MT-07 and the Suzuki Gladius.
