Erik Buell Racing (EBR) had declared bankruptcy and ceased manufacturing in April 2015. But now, in an announcement, Liquid Asset Partners who acquired Erik Buell Racing have resumed production of the American motorcycle.
The company based out of East Troy, Wisconsin, United States has restarted its motorcycle production and says the first bikes will be finished by March 17th. The new owner has also said that Steve Smith will be president and Erik Buell will remain on board as the chief technical officer. The East Troy facility employed about 130 people until it shut shop 11 months ago. Bikes were left unfinished on the assembly line when the company filed for bankruptcy. Now, under the new ownership production is expected to ramp up slowly with a few employees, but with a keen eye on expenditure.
"We have to be cautious. This time next year I don't want to be looking back and saying, 'Oops, we spent too much money,'" said Smith, who was with the company as chief of operations for less than three years before it shut down last April. The company said that getting dealerships to carry the brand again could be a challenge, because some dealers were stuck with unsold motorcycles when the company shut down.
