TVS is going to introduce two new two-wheelers in India this year. These products have been under development for a few years now and looks like 2021 is when these products will make its presence felt.
So the first product we’ll about is a brand new scooter. It’s a 125cc scooter and it will be called the Jupiter 125. This scooter will be obviously positioned above the Jupiter 110, but will it sit below the NTorq 125? Well, we don’t think so because the NTorq targets a more youthful audience, whereas the Jupiter focuses mainly on family. So we believe there’s a market for both the scooters at the similar price point.
Now the main question. How will the new Jupiter 125 look? Well, according to our sources, the Jupiter 125 gets a full new design. It’s a product that has been built from ground up, but there are some minor styling elements from its 110cc sibling. But TVS has made sure to make the Jupiter 125 look attractive and practical, something that will help them take on the Activa 125 and Access 125 head on. And now that we are talking about practicality, the company has played quite smart when it comes to overall packaging. Firstly, the fuel tank is likely to be placed under the floorboard and the fuel lid can be accessed from the back of the front apron – It is placed on the left side of the ignition switch. Why has this been done? Well, the company wanted to maximize the under seat space! I mean, our sources says that this storage area can take almost 2 half face helmets. Now coming to its instrumentation, the Jupiter 125 will get analog speedometer but there will also be a small LCD screen that shows the usual ride information like fuel level and tripmeters.
We don’t have details on its 125cc engine yet, but we believe TVS will use the engine from the NTorq. The power figures might differ a bit, so as the CVT ratios. The fuel efficiency figure will definitely be so much better than the NTorq 125, because this sporty scooter was known for quite bad fuel efficiency.
Now talking about the launch, well, the new Jupiter 125 is likely to hit the market in the next few weeks and will be launched post their new 125cc motorcycle makes debut. And when will this bike be launched?
We believe this new 125cc bike - which by the way is likely to be called the Fiero 125 - could be launched within the next few days. Currently, what we know is that this bike gets a sporty design. In fact, we could see some design inspiration from the Apache RTR 160 4V. Now if you are one of those who are wondering why would TVS launch a sport 125cc commuter motorcycle? Well, as of now, there’s a huge price gap between the TVS Star City and the Apache RTR 180 – a gap of almost Rs 40,000. This gap means TVS is losing good market share, and thus some sales. So expect this new 125cc bike to fill in that gap and help TVS chase more numbers.
Stay tuned to BikeWale as we bring in more information on the new Jupiter 125 and new Fiero 125.
