DSK-Hyosung today launched the Aquila Pro650 and 2013 GT650R at Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 4.79 lakh respectively. We spoke to Jimmy Park, managing director, S&T Motors(Hyosung) on their future plans. Below are the excerpts from the interview.
BikeWale: Considering how some countries are making ABS mandatory, is Hyosung planning to launch an ABS version of Aquila Pro650 and 2013 the GT650R as well in distant future?
Jimmy Park: Currently, our R&D team is working on ABS however we do not have any plans of launching the ABS version in these coming few years. We might launch the ABS version after 2015
BW: When will we have the next GT250R upgrade?
JP: Our R&D team is currently developing a new 250cc single cylinder engine. This is a completely new engine. These motorcycles will be mainly targeting Asian markets including India.
BW: Will this engine power a GT like sporty motorcycle as well?
JP: This new engine would power all types of motorcycles. It will have a sporty, a cruiser and street motorcycles.
BW: Are the changes on the 2013 GT650R only cosmetic or there is performance upgrade as well?
JP: The whole idea of updating the GT650R is to give it more sporty look. This motorcycle did go through the wind tunnel testing. We wanted to make sure the new front design won’t affect the performance of this motorcycle.
BW: Will the ST7 remain as Hyosung flagship product in India and Internationally?
JP: Our focus is to cater to a specific market for now. We would be aggressively looking in the 125 to 700ccs segments. So ST7 would remain our flagship product for now.
