- FB Mondial Piega 125 revealed
- Powered by a 124cc, liquid-cooled engine
- Will not be launched in India
FB Mondial is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer that was once offered in India through Kinetic-owned MotoRoyale showrooms. However, it shut shop along with the rest of the brand here. However, FB Mondial has taken the wraps of the Piega 125 which will compete against the KTM 125 Duke in international markets.
Now, the ‘Piega’ name has been derived from FB Mondial’s flagship superbike that was powered by the Honda V-Twin SP1 engine. Further, it has been designed by Rodolfo Frascoli- the mane behind the design of the new Suzuki Katana. Hence, it gets a radically unconventional design. At the front, the headlamp cowl protrudes and features dual vertically-stacked LEDs while the rear boasts of a clean rear frame and wheel mounted number plate holder. However, the most intriguing bit of its design is the fuel tank that features gills and a set of aero wings- which FB Mondial says is functional.
Underneath its rather futuristic body, the FB Mondial Piega 125 sports a 124cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that churns out 14.8bhp and 10.5Nm. On the other hand, the KTM 125 Duke produces 14.5bhp and 12Nm of torque. However, the FB Mondial Piega 125 benefits from a 135kg kerb weight that is far lesser than the KTM’s 159kg. That said, it rides on non-adjustable upside down forks and a rear monoshock whereas braking is taken care of by discs at both ends with a single-channel ABS. As for features, FB Mondial has equipped the bike with a colour TFT dash and full-LED lighting too.
The FB Mondial Piega 125 has been priced at EUR 4,400 (approx. Rs 3.66 lakh), making it more affordable than the European-spec KTM 125 Duke that comes in at EUR 5,450. Nevertheless, it will not be sold in India anytime soon.
