- FIM MiniGP India Series announced
- Road to MotoGP for young riders
- 10-14-year-old riders will be competing on mini race bikes
The FIM MiniGP World Series is a gateway for the young riders to enter the MotoGP world championship, the pinnacle of road racing. After the MiniGP category was introduced last year with 10 countries being a part of it, India has now joined the list of nations to hold the event.
The FIM MiniGP will provide a platform to young and talented Indian riders to kick-start their journey to MotoGP through affordable and fair competition. It will provide an arena to the young guns to learn the nitty-gritty of racing, sharpen their skills, and gain experience. The 2022 FIM MiniGP World Series will be a six-round racing event taking place in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
As per the rules formulated by FIM and Dorna Sports last year, the age of the riders must be between 10 to 14 years. They will be competing astride Ohvale GP-0 160 mini race bikes with Pirelli being their sole tyre supplier. Now, it remains to be seen if an identical format is utilised for the Indian rounds as well. The races shall be held on karting circuits that meet standards set by FIM and the national federation.
It will be interesting to see young guns of India going full send on small race bikes around karting circuits, chasing their dreams to enter MotoGP. Considering India is one of the largest two-wheeler markets with a strong riding culture, the introduction of such a racing platform in the country isn’t surprising.
