- Google introduces speed camera feature
- Riders will be able to see speed camera icon
- Borrowed this feature from Google-owned Waze
Google has introduced a speed camera feature for the Indian market. Through this feature, the driver or the rider will be able to spot the camera on the mobile app beforehand.
A Google map user will now be able to identify and mark speed cameras on their phone. The marked speed camera icon will be shown to other drivers or riders who are taking the same route. The speed camera icon is shown in blue and the number of people who have reported it. This feature will help the commuters reduce the speed and dodge some traffic fines.
For now, Google has launched this feature for Android users only. It looks like the tech giant has borrowed this feature from Waze, a GPS navigation application which Google bough a few years ago. Waze collects map data, travel times and traffic information from users and transmits it back to the Waze users. Data like accidents, traffic jams, speed and police traps can be reported through its app. The idea is to help the commuter take the best travel route, where the overall time taken is less.
