Govt makes helmet mandatory for children on two-wheelers

- Crash helmet mandatory for children

- Safety harness to be installed too

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways as mandated a crash helmet and safety harness for children under the age of four years while travelling on two-wheelers.

This new notification from the government also makes it compulsory for two-wheeler riders to ensure a safety harness for the child to prevent the latter from falling off the two-wheeler. This safety harness should be able to handle 30 kg of weight. The notification also restricts the speed of two-wheelers with a child below the age of four years to 40 km/h in an effort to further improve the safety of the child passenger.

This new regulation is definitely one of the best safety notifications that has been made by the government. However, the problem with such regulations have always been at the implementation end. This rule will come into effect from 15th February 2023.
