Rising environmental concerns have encouraged automakers to develop electric powertrains. This time around, globally popular premium bikemaker Harley Davidson has revealed its plans to introduce electric bikes over the next decade. The electric bikes will be introduced as part of the 100 bikes that will be launched in the same period. Although the American bikemaker will have a diverse line-up, the reports indicate that the electric motorcycles are likely to be introduced under a sub-range in the Bar and Shield brand portfolio.
Back in 2014, Harley Davidson had revealed the electric prototype named LiveWire. The American bikemaker claimed that the electric bike stood at par with the Iron 883 Sportster, as the liquid cooled electric motor paired to a 7kWh battery pack generated 74bhp of power and 70Nm of torque. Harley also claimed that the bike returned a decent driving range of 85kms on a single charge. The fresh lot of electric bikes might outdo the previous numbers and is expected to be as interesting as the gasoline version. Moving forward, reports indicate that the electric bikes will continue to be based on the brand’s philosophy, which means that we can expect to get the distinctive V-Twin note, performance and feel from the electric version as well.
Harley Davidson has not spoken in detail about the kind of bikes we can expect in future and it will be too early to comment on the same as the plans are still in their initial phase. Once introduced, the electric bikes are surely expected to find takers, especially when you have one being launched under the Harley Davidson badge.
