Harley-Davidson’s electric two-wheeler division, LiveWire, has taken the wraps off its second electric motorcycle, the S2 Del Mar LE. The suffix ‘LE’ stands for Launch Edition which means this one, in particular, is a limited edition model. There are a lot of notable things to know about the electric bike and we list the top five of them below:
Sold out in a jiffy
The LE trim of the S2 Del Mar was limited to just 100 all of which were sold out within 18 minutes after the bike went on sale online. Now, those who want to own the electric bike will have to until next year since HD plans to have the full production run of the bike from 2023.
More accessible than LiveWire One
HD LiveWire’s division already has an electric motorcycle called the One which we rode in Spain in 2020. Although impressive, the One is fast enough to terrify a new rider while being extremely heavy. The Del Mar, on the other hand, is substantially more compact and lighter than the One. What’s more, the former is also considerably more affordable than the latter.
New Arrow architecture
The main highlight of the LiveWire S2 Del Mar is the Arrow architecture it is based on and the company has been touting it as a ‘demonstration of its ambition to lead in the EV space and establish LiveWire as the most desirable electric motorcycle brand in the world.’ This platform combines the bike’s battery pack, electronic components, and motor to form the chassis. Since this platform is modular, HD says it can be used to make multiple other electric two-wheelers. Interestingly, it takes 44 per cent lesser time to make the Del Mar as compared to the One.
Performance-focused
Although relatively more beginner-friendly than the One, the Del Mar won’t be boring by any stretch. LiveWire is yet to reveal the full technical specifications of the Del Mar. However, it has revealed that the 0-100kmph sprint time of the e-bike is 3.5 seconds which means it will be entertainingly quick. This is courtesy of the 79bhp propulsion motor of the bike. Even the claimed battery range is around 160km in the city.
Launch details
LiveWire has priced the S2 Del Mar LE at $17,699 (nearly Rs 13.67 lakh). Whereas, the One is dearer at $22,799 (roughly Rs 17.61 lakh). Furthermore, the next year’s production model will be more affordable than the LE trim. As exciting as the Del Mar sounds, its chances of entering India are equally slim, at least until the near future.
