- Harley-Davidson filed a patent of a fairing design
- Reminiscent of the 1994 Harley-Davidson VR1000 sportsbike
- Likely to be based on Harley’s upcoming streetfighter
Harley-Davidson has long been associated with only cruisers and touring motorcycles. However, since the introduction of the LiveWire electric bike and the brand revealing its ‘More Roads to Harley-Davidson’ plan, things seem to be departing in various directions. After unveiling an adventure and streetfighter concept, the American bike maker is apparently working on a half-faired sportsbike, patent of which has recently surfaced online.
The patent drawing comprises of an insipid-looking bubble fairing design integrating an oblong-shaped provision for the headlamp. The overall shape is clearly reminiscent of the Harley-Davidson VR1000 race bike which was introduced in 1994. While Harley developed race-spec iterations of the VR1000 for competing in the AMA Superbike racing, it also launched a few road-going versions of the same. However, neither of the two proved yielding for the brand.
Besides the patent drawings, another evidence of Harley working on a faired motorcycle was in the ‘More Roads to Harley-Davidson’ teaser video released last year. It showed a sportsbike clay model which comprised of a fairing design similar to the patented illustration. Now, although it’s certain that Harley is developing such a motorcycle, it is not expected to come before 2021.
Harley-Davidson will be introducing the Pan America adventure tourer and a streetfighter next year, which will be followed a 2021 factory custom. The faired Harley is likely to be a derivative of the streetfighter which will be powered by a 975cc, V-twin, water-cooled, DOHC motor. Furthermore, the American bike maker will eventually reveal a line-up of middle-weight bikes as well, with 500cc and 750cc mills which do duty on the existing Street 500 and Street 750.
