Hero MotoCorp will soon make its debut in the rapidly growing 125cc scooter segment with the new Duet 125. A conservative unisex scooter targeted at a family man, the Duet 125 will be positioned below the upcoming Maestro Edge 125. Here is what we can look forward to with the new Hero Duet 125 -
Conservative styling
The Duet 125 carries over most of the styling cues from the 110cc Duet. It gets an elegant look thanks to the conservative body shape, chrome garnish at the front and the rich paint schemes. The headlamp is located on the handlebar, while the turn signals are positioned on either side of the chrome garnish on the apron.
Hero’s first 125cc scooter powertrain
Powering the Duet 125 is a 124cc single-cylinder engine. This unit delivers 8.7bhp and 10.2Nm of torque through a CVT transmission. This engine produces 5 per cent more power and 22 per cent more torque than the 110cc unit.
i3S system
The Duet 125 is equipped with Hero’s proprietary i3S start-stop system, which has so far been used only in commuter bikes. This system automatically kills the engine when the scooter is standstill for a few seconds, helping conserve fuel. The engine comes back to life as soon as you twist the throttle.
Practical touches
The instrument cluster consists of a digital display which shows fuel level, odometer, trip meter and service due indicator. The Duet 125 also gets pass light, USB charging, two storage hooks and external fuel filler cap which can be opened directly through the ignition key. Integrated braking system is offered as standard.
Lucrative pricing
With a price tag in the range of Rs 50,000 to Rs 55,000, we expect the Duet 125 to be the most affordable 125cc scooter in the Indian market. It will compete against the Suzuki Access 125 and the Honda Activa 125.
