- Hero Electric dispatches zero units in April
- Chip shortage is to blame
- Production to resume soon
The global chip shortage has been acting as a speed breaker in the growth of multiple brands and Hero Electric is one of them. The company had been India’s best-selling electric two-wheeler brand for a long time. However, it reported zero dispatches in the month of April mainly due to the semi-conductor shortage, as stated in the press release.
The ongoing global crisis resulted in some of the Hero Electric dealerships not having any electric two-wheelers on display. Moreover, the temporary halt in its production also means the waiting period for its products is more than 60 days. However, the company CEO, Sohinder Gill has mentioned that Hero Electric is prepping alternate component supply sources and the production is expected to resume soon.
Pointing out the recent incidents in which electric vehicles caught fire, the company spokesperson said that they are utilising this time to reevaluate its systems and processes related to batteries in order to have assurance regarding their quality and safety. Furthermore, Hero Electric also observed April as Battery Safety Month which involved all its dealers across India educating their existing customers about EV batteries and the crucial safety precautions that are needed to be practised to avoid any battery-related mishap.
