The Indian electric two-wheeler space has been consistently growing in terms of sales which is quite evident from the data released by Vahan for 2022. The year started with the registration of 28,193 electric two-wheelers in January while it culminated at 65,091 units in December. And amongst all the E2W brands present in India, Hero Electric and Okinawa Autotech were in the top three positions for the most part.
In December 2022, Hero Electric registered 7,180 units of its products, outselling Okinawa which registered 4,963 units in the same month. However, the latter’s yearly registrations were marginally more at 1,01,366 units while the former’s settled at 1,00,123 units. Outperforming both these brands and clinching the top spot in 2022 was Ola Electric which registered as many as 1,08,130 units last year.
Remotely following Hero Electric were Ampere Vehicles and Ather Energy which registered 79,592 units and 51,192 units, respectively. The mainstream ICE vehicle brands TVS and Bajaj, meanwhile, were in the sixth and seventh positions, respectively, in the E2W sales chart. The competition in the Indian electric two-wheeler segment is rapidly growing with the increasing adoption of EVs. It will be interesting to see which brands clinch the top five positions in terms of sales in 2023.
