Hero MotoCorp has announced that it will enter the electric vehicle space by the end of the current financial year (FY2021-22) i.e. by March 2022. The Indian two-wheeler maker said in a press statement it is accelerating its focus on producing electric vehicles as an integral part of its product portfolio.
The company did not give many details about this upcoming electric vehicle, although it confirmed that the project is in the advanced stages. Hero MotoCorp also confirmed that the product will be manufactured at its plant in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
Regular readers would know that the company has invested in the Bangalore-based electric two-wheeler maker, Ather Energy. Hero MotoCorp has also announced a strategic partnership with a Taiwan based EV giant, Gogoro. In August 2021, a leaked image of this upcoming electric scooter from Hero MotoCorp surfaced on the internet, giving a brief glimpse at the design of the vehicle.
The details about the specifications and the features of this upcoming Hero MotoCorp electric scooter are limited, although it is likely to be at par with its rivals such as the Bajaj Chetak and the Ola S1 Pro. We may see the production-spec model at the upcoming EICMA show 2021.
