Hero MotoCorp January sales drop by 22 per cent

- Hero MotoCorp sales down by 22 per cent

- Third wave worsened the demand

- First e-scooter launch soon

Hero MotoCorp has registered a 22 per cent drop in January 2022 sales. The company sold a total of 3,80,476 units last month as against 4,85,889 units in January 2021.

Out of the total units, the company sold 3,57,845 motorcycles last month whereas the scooter contributed only 22,631 units. The brand claims that the drop in sales is primarily due to the third Covid-19 wave that also brought in multiple state-wise lockdowns. The domestic sales stood at 3,58,660 whereas 21,816 units were exported.

While Hero MotoCorp doesn’t share brand-wise sales figures, the Splendor and the Passion brands contributes the most. The Gurgaon-based company is also betting big on EVs and plans to unveil their first mass market electric-scooter in the next few weeks. This e-scooter is likely to be launched under a new brand and not Hero MotoCorp as the word ‘Hero’ can only be used by Hero Electric under the EV category.
