- Recorded growth of 4 per cent over the previous fiscal year
- Witnessed year-on-year drop of 21 per cent in April
Hero MotoCorp reported that it has sold 78 lakh units of two-wheelers during the financial year 2018-19. Considering the company’s yearly sales of 75 lakh units during FY 2017-18, it has witnessed a growth of 4 per cent this year.
On the flip side, Hero MotoCorp faced a decline of 21 per cent in its monthly sales in April. The manufacturer sold 5,74,366 units in the last month which is down from 6,94,022 units in the corresponding month last year. It is noteworthy that Hero recorded a similar drop in its year-on-year sales in the month of March as well. Among various other factors, one reason for this drop is the increased prices of two-wheelers due to the implementation of new safety norms. The inclusion of CBS and ABS braking set up has hiked the prices of motorcycles and scooters which has hampered the sales of various bikemakers.
Hero MotoCorp has recently introduced three new products under its premium portfolio represented by ‘X’. The line-up includes the Xtreme 200S (the fully-faired version of the 200R), the much-anticipated adventure bike - XPulse 200, and its touring version, the XPulse 200T. While Hero already has a strong foothold in the commuter segment, these motorcycles might give the company a considerable boost in the premium segment as well.
