Hero MotoCorp to focus efforts on rural India

Hero MotoCorp has said that it is concentrating its efforts more on rural India in a bid to raise volumes. As a part of this initiative, the Gurgaon based bike-maker is also organizing a free health check-up in many of the rural areas.

The company has revealed that 45 per cent of its sales originate from rural India where buyers are mostly on the look out for fuel-efficient motorcycles both due to running costs and the scarcity of petrol pumps.  It is likely that this is where motorcycles like the Splendor and Passion Pro are strong sellers.

The company is also holding free motorcycle service camps in 100,000 villages as well as organising free medical camps.  "We've stepped up our engagement with rural India. The outlook is promising on account of several factors, including rising rural income, better farm output and the government's social spending programs," said Anil Dua, senior vice president (marketing and sales) Hero MotoCorp.
