- Multiple electric bikes and scooters under development
- Could take help from Ather Energy
- Expect concept unveil at 2020 Auto Expo
Hero MotoCorp is working on multiple electric two-wheelers projects. The company’s R&D facility located in Jaipur has been tasked to build new EVs that will make its debut in India in the next few years.
The company’s top honcho, Pawan Munjal revealed this plan to its shareholders through the 2018-2019 Annual Report. While the company has its own R&D unit, it has invested in electric startup Ather Energy from Bengaluru. There’s a high chance that the company could use the base powertrain developed by Ather and build a new range of electric two-wheelers. In fact, Ather is developing a new low-cost electric scooter which could prove useful for Hero MotoCorp.
"The entire world is adopting the global mobility trends of electrification (EVs), shared mobility and connected two-wheelers. The company is working on several EV projects and is fully geared up for this challenge," said Pawan Munjal.
A few years ago, the Gurgaon-based manufacturer had showcased a host of EV concept that was co-developed with EBR. However, these concept projects were shelved post the dissolution of Hero-EBR alliance.
We can expect the new EV concepts to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. In fact, the upcoming expo could see major unveils of electric vehicles as that’s the next big thing in India.
