- Hero’s EVs will be sold under its new sub-brand, Vida
- First product was scheduled to debut on 1 July
- Launch postponed to festive season this year
Hero MotoCorp is one of the mainstream two-wheeler brands which is all set to enter the Indian EV market soon. The company has already launched a new sub-brand, Vida, under which all its electric two-wheelers will be sold. At Vida’s official announcement, the company had affirmed that its first electric two-wheeler will be launched on 1 July 2022. However, as per the brand’s latest release, the launch has now been postponed to sometime around the festive season this year.
The sole reason for this delay is the ongoing global semi-conductor shortage, which is responsible for the postponement of many other two-wheeler launches and deliveries over the last few months. Notably, this is the second time Hero’s EV launch has been delayed as it was earlier planned to be introduced in March 2022.
Although it’s not confirmed yet, Hero’s first EV will mostly be an electric scooter; a picture of which was leaked in August last year. All that we could decipher from the picture is that it looks unique, modern, and bigger than most other electric scooters on sale in India. And the spotted scooter was most probably the final prototype as it looked production-ready.
Hero MotoCorp plans to sell Vida-branded electric two-wheelers not just in India but also in select international markets. As per an interview given by one of the brand’s top honchos, these EVs will be sold in Europe, Latin America, and a few other markets.
