- Beat scooter patented in India
- Gets engine from Activa
- India launch unlikely
Honda has registered the design of yet another two-wheeler in India. This time around it is a step-through styled scooter with the name Beat.
The Honda Beat is quite famous in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and Indonesia. But India doesn’t have a market for step-throughs or vehicles that look like one. Over the last few years, this Japanese brand has registered almost its entire global portfolio in India. However, this doesn’t mean that these vehicles will be launched in India. Honda is doing it for design protection, and there may be plans to make these products in India and export them to the rest of the world.
The Honda Beat gets a traditional floorboard and is powered by the same engine that powers the Activa. It receives the 110cc motor but makes more power with 9bhp at 7500rpm and peak torque of 9.2Nm at 6000rpm.
In terms of features, the Beat is positioned as a premium scooter and hence it gets things like keyless ignition, 14-inch wheels, an anti-theft alarm and also LED headlight. It gets a single-seat and decently sized grab rail and is sold in multiple colours in various markets. Sadly, it won’t be launched in India anytime soon.
