Honda has announced that it has crossed the 300 million milestone for the production of two-wheelers, ever since it first set up shop in 1949. While the first model to roll off the company’s production line in 1949 was a Dream Type-D, a Goldwing 40th Anniversary model became the300 millionth motorcycle to leave the factory floor.
It took Honda more than 48 years to cross the first hundred million mark, though the exponential growth in the past few years meant that the breaching the 300 million mark took just 17 years. Honda currently has 33 facilities in 22 countries across the globe, of which three are located in India.
The Japanese manufacturer recently held the ground breaking ceremony for its fourth plant in India, which will come up in Vithalapur, Gujarat. With aggressive expansion plans, the company is slowly gaining pace in its attempt to become the country’s biggest two-wheeler manufacturer.
Speaking about this feat, Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co. Ltd said, “Thanks to support from our customers and all of the people involved in development, production and sales, Honda was able to reach the 300 million unit milestone. We will continue to provide products that will please our customers in each country and region in the world.”
