- Re-introduced in Europe after six years
- Updated in terms of design, features, and hardware
- Unlikely to come to India
Honda has brought back the legendary supersport, the CBR600RR, after pulling the plugs on it for almost six years in Europe. The motorcycle has received plenty of updates in terms of styling, features and hardware.
The new bodywork of the motorcycle gets aerodynamic winglets for better straight line and cornering stability. The twin-pod headlamp, with a central air intake, is quite slim and lends the bike a sinister look. We are glad to see that Honda has retained the iconic under-tail exhaust canister which makes it look distinctive. The motorcycle will be available in a black colour scheme alongside Honda’s signature triple-tone combination of red, blue, and white shades.
Powering the motorcycle is a 599cc, liquid-cooled, inline four-cylinder engine that produces 119bhp at 14,250rpm and 63Nm of peak torque at 11,500rpm. Honda has equipped the bike with a six-axis IMU for facilitating it with lean-sensitive electronic aids like cornering ABS, nine-level traction control, and wheelie control. It also gets a TFT display, engine brake management and ECU-controlled electronic steering damper.
Coming to the cycle parts, the new CBR600RR rides on 17-inch wheels with Dunlop Roadsports 2 tyres. Damping duties are handled by 41mm upside-down forks at the front and Honda’s Pro-link monoshock at the rear, both being fully adjustable. Braking is taken care of by a pair of radially-mounted four-piston calipers with 310mm discs up front and a single 220mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear.
Honda will not bring the CBR600RR to India in the near future due to the lack of demand for middle-weight supersport. However, one can still buy the CBR 650R at our shores for Rs 9.35 lakh (ex-showroom).
