- Both motorcycles to come with an electronic clutch
- Likely to debut in the USA first
- Offers a mix of automatic as well as manual clutch control
Honda debuted its new technology, called the E-Clutch sometime around last year. Now, the Japanese bikemaker is set to introduce the same on two of its motorcycles, the CB650R and the CBR650R.
We have already explained in detail about the E-Clutch system but let's take a brief look at what it has to offer. The differences start right from the exteriors as Honda has integrated a new engine cover for the CB650R and the CBR650R. There is a couple of servo motors bolted onto the new casing and these help in the shifting process. The same pair of servo motors also pulls the clutch when the motorcycle is stationary.
That said, the rider can completely disengage the E-Clutch and gain manual control. This can be done by toggling through the menu on the TFT screen. Powering the duo is a 649cc inline four-cylinder engine that makes 94bhp and 62.3Nm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox.
Honda has equipped the CBR650R and the CB650R with LED illumination, traction control, ABS, and a TFT with smartphone connectivity. Its hardware includes 41mm Showa Separate Function - Big Piston front forks and a 10-step adjustable rear shock. Then, the braking hardware includes dual 310mm front discs and a single 240mm rear unit. These are mounted on 17-inch wheels wrapped in 120/70 front and 180/55 rear tyres.
The Honda CBR650R and the CB650R E-Clutch will debut in the USA in September this year.
