- First Honda electric two-wheeler for Europe
- Claimed to deliver 40km riding range
In line with its plan to introduce over 10 electric two-wheelers globally by 2025, Honda has unveiled the EM1 electric scooter at the 2022 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. Notably, this is Honda’s first electric two-wheeler to enter the European market.
As mentioned in the brand’s official statement, ‘EM’ stands for electric moped and it is targeted at young buyers who want a compact, light and easy-to-ride urban runabout. The boxy and angular design lines of the scooter make it look way simpler than the modern-day, robotic-looking electric scooters. But it seems to be more about function than form with a large footboard, visibly spacious seat, and a rear carrier.
Propelling the EM1 is Honda Mobile Power Pack e: which is claimed to deliver a riding range of 40km on a single charge. Honda claims that this power pack is developed to endure ‘different temperatures, humidity levels, impacts and vibrations’. Also, the battery pack is removable to provide the user with the convenience to charge it at their home.
The EM1 will certainly be exclusive to the International markets. Honda will undoubtedly introduce electric two-wheelers in India but those will perhaps be specifically built for our market.
